Richard (Johnny Depp) is a jaded middle-aged college professor, worn down by his failing marriage and work. After learning about his terminal diagnosis, he decides to say goodbye rules and instead chooses to live his life with reckless abandon; drinking, smoking pot with his students on campus, casual sex and expressing honest thoughts to the people around him. While going through the stages, he comes to terms with the great truth of his life as he mends broken relationships, embraces the people in his life and learns to ignite his inner good spirit.
