Derek Nash (Jools Holland) with Picante @ Peel Centenary Centre
Sep 14 @ 8:00 pm – 10:15 pm

Derek makes a welcome return to Peel (after his sell out Some Kinda Wonderful Stevie Wonder show last year) with his 6 piece band for their new Latin influenced show, Picante.

Derek has been a member of the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra since 2004, has led Sax Appeal for over thirty years, fronts the funk/fusion band Protect the Beat, and is a member of the Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion.

He is renowned for his energetic, vibrant, passionate and charismatic performances on all four saxophones – from sonorous baritone to soaring soprano – and is an award-winning performer having received the John Dankworth Award and the British Jazz Award (Small Group) for Sax Appeal. He received Best Jazz CD of the Year for Young Lions, Old Tigers with the late Spike Robinson, receiving the same British Jazz Award for “Joyriding” by The Derek Nash Acoustic Quartet in 2012. He regularly appears in the British Jazz awards nominations in several categories (Alto/Tenor and Baritone) and was nominated for Jazz Musician of the Year by the Global Music Foundation.

As a performer, he has played with Don and Dave Grusin, John Dankworth, Ray Gelato, John Ehteridge, Russell Ferrante, Nelson Rangell, Snake Davis, Bob Dorough, Oscar Castro Neves, Lillian Boutte, Clare Teal, Jamie Cullum, Humphrey Lyttelton and Alan Barnes. He has also worked with boogie-maestro Ben Waters, appearing on his CDs Shakin’ in the Makin’, Hurricane and Boogie for Stu (alongside Keith Richards) and performing a series of dates with Axel Zwingenberger, Dave Green and Charlie Watts.

And that’s just Derek! The other 5 members (Satan Bharj, Marc Cecil, Andy Staples, Neil Angilley, Dominic Ashworth) in the band are equally as prolific and this is not a show to be missed.

** Important announcement – The Houghton Weavers **

We can confirm that the planned performances of the Houghton Weavers will go ahead on 20th & 21st September.

Naturally, we all continue to be saddened by the passing of Tony Berry, and will miss him tremendously.

We can announce however, that David, Steve and Jim will be joined by Paul Johnston who is better known as a member of the band Fivepenny Piece for their shows in the Isle of Man.

Out of respect to Tony’s family and band members, we have decided not to change the photo for this event. Although he is no longer with us physically, his smile is still here in our minds and hearts.

Even now, we can hear him say “Keep folk smiling!”

Gareth Gates Live @ Centenary Centre
Nov 2 @ 8:00 pm – 10:15 pm

Born in Bradford in July 1984, Gareth Gates always knew he wanted to be a performer. It’s well known as a young boy he was head chorister for Bradford Cathedral Choir and performed solo for the Queen when she visited in 1997. What’s less well known is that he has a natural gift for music and, as well as being a faultless vocalist, he is an accomplished musician, playing piano and guitar to the highest standard.

In 2002, Gareth was famously runner-up to Will Young in the UK’s first Pop Idol. Instead of disappearing into ‘pop oblivion’, he carved out a very successful career for himself, having hits and travelling worldwide. Gareth sold 5 million records worldwide, released three albums and had five UK number-one singles. He won record of the year in 2002 and with that had the second best-selling single of the ‘noughties’ with ‘Unchained Melody’. Outside of the UK, Gareth was awarded Best International Male in 2003/04 from MTV Asia, MTV China and MTV Taiwan.

In 2008, Gareth donned the sequins and Lycra every Sunday night to take part in the hit ITV1 show Dancing on Ice, in front of millions of TV viewers, coming fourth in the competition. Not bad for someone who couldn’t even stand up on the ice at the beginning!

Post-Dancing on Ice, Gareth decided to change musical direction and accepted the lead role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It was a role he first played at the tender age of eight in school and proved to be an ideal start to his theatrical career. During this time, Gareth also tackled his first pantomime as Prince Charming in Cinderella at Wimbledon Theatre, to which he thoroughly enjoyed.

In 2009, Gareth auditioned for, and impressed, Sir Cameron Mackintosh, which led to him playing the role of Marius in the 25th anniversary tour of Les Misérables. This mammoth ten-month tour played to sell-out audiences as far afield as Manchester, Norwich, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Paris, Bristol and Southampton, ending at the Barbican in London with 22 special performances at the show’s original home. This brand-new production featured new direction, staging and arrangement – and Gareth wowed audiences up and down the country, and a new cast recording was also made. Following on from this successful stint, Cameron Mackintosh asked Gareth to resume the role in the West End, which finished in June 2011.

In the autumn of 2011, Gareth spent time planning and filming a documentary that showed the struggle faced by people with a stammer, Gareth Gates: Stop My Stutter. This emotional journey followed Gareth as he taught young people with a stammer the McGuire technique, in a bid to change their lives. Gareth, now a qualified teacher, spent four days teaching these students and learning about their individual goals and challenges.

In June 2012, Gareth took on his most challenging role to date, one that contained more speech than he has had to tackle before. He played the have-it-all rich kid Eddie in the brand-new musical Loserville at West Yorkshire Playhouse – doubly enjoyable, as he got to work in his home county and spend time with his family.

Following this, Gareth joined the cast of Legally Blonde on its UK tour, playing the role of Warner. In addition to this, he toured with a new production of Boogie Nights with The Osmonds, and even sang ‘Puppy Love’ to delighted crowds! He also appeared on the second series of the popular ITV2 show The Big Reunion, which saw him join other pop stars in creating a new boy band, Fifth Story, who appeared at a sold-out concert at the Hammersmith Apollo, London.

In addition to releasing The Very Best of Gareth Gates in 2014, Gareth continues to tour, write and produce music. 2016 saw Gareth launch his new venture ‘Cuppanut’ – a coconut hot infusion.  An idea he dreamt up and made a reality, as an alternative to caffeinated drinks, it has since been exclusively stocked by Holland and Barrett and has recently scooped eight top food awards!

This year Gareth has just finished touring the UK with Footloose the Musical, where he played the comedy role for the first time! He loved it.

He’s thrilled to be coming back to Peel!

Neil Angilley Trio @ Centenary Centre
Dec 14 @ 8:00 pm – 10:15 pm

NEIL ANGILLEY is a brilliant pianist, equally at home playing jazz, Latin or classical.

He has worked with the acid jazz percussionist Snowboy, is MD for the violin virtuoso Vanessa Mae and was keyboardist and arranger for jazz chart-topping band “Down to the Bone”.

He includes work with the likes of Shirley Bassey, Michael Ball, Jazz clarinettist Julian Marc Stringle and Jazz/Rock show “War of The Worlds” on a glittering CV. A great jazz as well as Latin/Brazilian player, his remarkable musicianship is enormously respected throughout the scene.

Neil’s debut album “Havana Club”, featuring some of his renowned Latin/jazz original compositions, was received with great acclaim and his second, highly impressive, album under his own name, “Chango” featuring, amongst others, one of Europe’s finest percussionists, Snowboy, was equally well received.

In this concert, as well as his Latin repertoire, Neil will be presenting music from his latest project “The Lake District” suite. Also featured are his storming rhythm section of Davide Mantovani on bass and Davide Giovannini on drums.

We are thrilled to be welcoming back to the incredible talent that is Bogdan Vacarescu, accompanied on Piano by Julian Jacobson.

Bogdan is an international Romanian concert violinist living in London, who has toured internationally since his teens as a concerto soloist, chamber and orchestra musician. He has performed in the Sydney Opera House, Athenaeum in Bucharest, Romanian National Radio Hall, The United Nations Concert Hall in New York, New Morning in Paris, Kings Place and Purcell Room in London.

M is for Manx Cat! @ Peel Centenary Centre
Mar 1 @ 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm

A limited opportunity to see this musical sensation with not one but EIGHT shows at FOUR
locations around the Island.

Come and join the fun in this musical adaptation of the well loved children’s book by local
author Gemma Hjerth and illustrated by Kim Gee. Join the adventure as two children are
taken on a whirlwind journey through music, song, dance, witty dialogue and fun facts all
about the Isle of Man. Will Granny ever finish their bedtime story and get them to sleep? Not
if these cheeky children have anything to do with it!

Produced and directed by Lisa Kreisky and Kristene Sutcliffe of Stage Door Entertainment
and proudly sponsored by the Isle of Man Arts Council, this exciting and educational show is
making it’s way around the Isle of Man in the first tour of it’s kind.

Lisa said “As parents ourselves, Krissy and I are fully aware that it’s not always easy to
travel with young kids, even around the Isle of Man. But we believe that this should not stop
them enjoying the magic of Theatre, so we decided to take it on the road. Bring it to them as
such” Kristene added “The show was so popular when it was first performed at The Studio Theatre
at part of Theatrefest 19 back in October. The one criticism we received was that the One
Night Only performance was not enough and too few people got to see it. So, we are
remedying that.”

Tickets are only £5 and can be booked through www.eventbrite.co.uk or all info is on the
Stage Door Entertainment IOM FaceBook page. Tickets are limited, due to the short run, so
please book early to avoid disappointment.
