A variety show of that name saw a
full house at the Centenary Centre on Saturday
night, with people being turned away disappointed
at not being able to get in.
'The curtain was due to go up at 7pm and the place
was packed by 6.45pm. We had to turn a lot of
people away,' said John Elliott, who helped
organise the show on behalf of Inspirations, the
Centenary Centre's in-house drama group. 'It was
absolutely wonderful. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed
it. It was just a great night.'
Twenty acts, ranging from juggling to gymnastics
and dancing to drama, were divided into juniors
and seniors. The judges — Kevin Ford from 3FM,
Karen Elliott and Ian Baker — had a difficult
task in selecting winners from so many stars.
In the end, they gave first prize in the junior
category to Gabrielle Woodhouse, for a sparkling
song and dance routine; first prize in the adult
section went to 'Madame Loubelle' (Beastie Dovey)
who sang a humorous song to her own autoharp
accompaniment. The winners each received a trophy,
a certificate and a voucher.
No one is in any doubt now that Peel has got
talent and the show may well become an annual
event.
Finally a note from the organisers:
Inspirations would like to thank the audience and
contestants for making this such a successful
night, we raised a massive £975.00
for the Centenary Centre and our next production,
Musicality, to be staged shortly.
