\nSoukous\, the dance music of Zaire\, was updated by Par is-based vocalist and bandleader Konda Bongo Man. With his high tenor voca ls alternating between lyrics in Lingala andFrench\, Bongo Man and his ban d\, which has included influential guitarists Diblo Dibala in the 1980s and Rigo Star in the 1990s\, has sparked dancing in audiences around the globe.
\nThe New York Times wrote\, "\;Zairean soukous is a lilt ing\, rippling\, dance groove that seems to smile from every register\, wi th melody and rhythm inseparable.

Kanda Bongo Man will be joined b y a six piece band and two dancers on his visit to the Peel Centenary Cent re.

Gasper Nali
\nGasper Nali is a Malawian one-man-band. An old video of him playing his 3 metre longone-string bass guitar has been watched over 18 million times online in the last 12 months . Gasper’s incredible instrument – a Babatoni – is all homemade\, and is p layed with a beer bottle and a stick while he’s singing and stomping a loc ally fashioned kick-pedal on his cow
\nskin bass drum. His music is b ouncy and catchy\, Malawi Roots to the core\, and very danceable. Songline s Magazine summed it up very well in their 4-star review of his album: “…s imple but joyous\, and totally infectious”.

Gasper\, 35\, lives a quite modest life in the small town of Nkhata Bay on the shores ofnorthern Lake Malawi. In his younger years\, he and his brothers would travel a bi t with a family band in order to make money\, but these days he lives alon e in a small house inNkhata Bay\, mainly supporting himself by playing reg ular shows at venues in town\,

Michael Mountain\, the composer and singer\, is a multifaceted man. He is a small-scaletobacco and maize farmer\, a community organiser\, a r eflective thinker\, a prolificsongwriter and a charismatic artist. On one hand he is deeply rooted in the spirituality ofthe Rastafari movement\, on the other\, immersed in the local politics of being chief of asmall villa ge.

Raised and educated in Zambia\, Michael now lives the humble l ifestyle common to mostpeople in rural Malawi with his wife and two young children. The front porch of their small house is his favourite place. Fro m there he can clearly see life from a different point of view and put the se reflections into song.
\nHis debut album “Nowhere Else To Go” was mainly recorded in a studio on the shores of Lake Malawi\, where Michael’s soulful voice was backed up by a crew of fantastic musicians from the Nkh ata-Bay area. A few overdubs\, some finishing touches and themixing was do ne in Sweden and the result of this collaboration is something quite speci al.
\nIts an old school\, low-key kind of reggae\, where Michael’s si nging takes centre stage infront of a band that produces an organic and so metimes almost fragile vibe.

Mez & the Fezzes is an all-star band featuring members of the Van Mor rison Band\, Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra and Madness.

B etween them they have worked with BB King\, Paul McCartney\, Tom Jones\, R obert Plant\, Joss Stone and many many more.

Led by drummer/lead s inger Mez Clough\, the Fezzes play an infectious mix of rhythm & blues\, r ock ‘n’ roll\, surf and swing. They keep the dance floor rocking with clas sic tunes from the likes of Chuck Berry\, Fats Domino as well as cult movi e themes from Quentin Tarantino.

The band has performed at the Mad ness ‘House of Fun’ Festival and top UK Vintage event Twinwood Festival.\n

World-renowned US blues act the Erin Harp e Country Blues Duo will be appearing at the Peel Centenary Centre (Atholl Room) for the very first time on April 14.

The Duo have been call ed “today’s country blues at its very best” by America’s oldest blues peri odical Living Blues Magazine\, who crowned Erin “one of the finest fingerp icking acoustic blues singers in the land”.

A passionate purveyor of the vintage country blues and roots music she was brought up on\, Erin is considered one of the premier acoustic blues pickers in the world today \, showing off her feel-good\, ragtime-influenced Piedmont roots in her aw ard-winning Country Blues Duo\, aka “CBD”.

The group features Erin on acoustic guitars\, vocals\, kazoo & foot percussion\, with her husband \, Jim Countryman\, on ukulele bass and backing vocals.

Americana qua rtet the Jesse Janes are bringing their previously sold out live show cele brating the soundtrack from the 2000 movie ‘O Brother\, Where Art Thou? an d other iconic Bluegrass and Blues classics to the Isle of Man for the fir st time.

Expect to hear classic tunes made famous by the likes of Johnny Cash\, Bob Dylan\, EmmyLou Harris\, Alison Kraus\, Elvis\ , The Stanley Brothers\, Roy Orbison\, Jimmy Rodgers and Gillian Welch to name a few.

The Jesse Janes are an Americana quartet mad e up of Irish sisters Kate and Mary Rose plus Liverpool lads Tom and Ben. They have been enchanting audiences in Ireland and the North West of Engla nd for over 10 years with their unique and joyful interpretations of Ameri cana classics\, alongside some of their own original songs.

Opening for the Jesse Janes will be well-known Isle of Man country bl ues guitarist John Gregory\, AKA Blue John.

John specialises in fi ngerpicking blues from the 1920s onwards\, naming Mississippi John Hurt an d Big Bill Broonzy as two of his biggest inspirations.

J ohn has toured the British Isles\, opening for top US acoustic blues music ians Ari Eisinger\, Toby Walker and the Erin Harpe Country Blues Duo and d id several headline dates of his own in the UK in 2024.

He has also played at events at The Bitter End in New York and in Austin\, Texas as well as travelling to Chicago to play Big Bill Broonzy’s guitar in 2018.

THE HOUGHTON WEAVERS\, The Northwest’s Premiere Come dy / Folk Group\, Stars of Radio and Television\, have been entertaini ng folk for a whopping 50 years!\, with their unique blend o f popular folk music\, humour and audience participation.

Having recently performed as a headline Act at The Great British Fol k Festival\, their single “Wild Mountain Thyme” appeared in the Heritage Charts Top 40 and is due to appear in an upcoming film\, ‘Between Weathers’. The band has recorded over 30 albums\, 23 of which were arranged and produced by Steve Millington.
